Problem Solved - Flickering images within Final Cut Pro

Recently I was working on a project where I had to do some "Ken Burns" style effect, also known as Pan and Scan.  I was noticing a flicking/vibrating happening within a few of the images, especially in detailed area, such as hair and grass.  When I viewed the video at 100% it wasn't there, but once compressed, it was back.  So, I started doing some research.

I can across this page over at the Digital Journalist.

This issue occurs because of how large images are compared to video.  I'm not sure if this is handled any better in other editors, such as ones that can handle 4K footage, but it was an issue in FCP 7.

There are a few solutions, but what I found to work the best was to add a "flicker" filter to the image.  If you have never used this filter before, you'd think it was be the opposite of what you want, but it works great.

Just got over to effects-->Video Filters-->Video-->Flicker Filter.

I pushed it up to max right away and it worked perfectly.  Another way to do this is to add a De-Interlace filter. You can add the Flicker Filter from this filter as well.

Hopefull this helps anyone having this issue.  With a lot of clients wanting images and video because of HD DSLRs, I could see this happening more often.
